Migrating an existing WOW Station
The existing connection between station and WOW will expire at the beginning of 2026, and stations will need to re-register on the dedicated RMI platform. The protocol through which stations can send their data to the RMI platform is identical to the protocol originally defined by the UK Met Office, so in that respect there is no change, except for pressure measurements.
With regard to pressure measurements, the original WOW protocol contained some ambiguity: both relative and absolute pressure values were accepted in the field baromin, with the type of pressure to be specified in the station’s registration. To remove this ambiguity, we now explicitly support two separate fields: baromin = relative pressure (i.e. pressure reduced to sea level) and absbaromin = absolute pressure (i.e. the raw pressure measurement at the station’s location). The original WOW-UK parameter baromin now always refers to relative pressure. Baromin is the authoritative value, meaning that:
– when both parameters are provided, only baromin is used,
– when only absbaromin is provided, the corresponding relative pressure (baromin) is derived from it.
Migrating an existing WOW station to the new platform is done in four steps:
Step 1: Register your station on WOW-BE
To re-register your station, first create an account at https://wow.meteo.be/web/login, then register your station. After registration, you will receive an email with a new station ID (short and long version) and your chosen authentication key (replacing the old six-digit PIN).
Step 2: Update the “endpoint”
This is a crucial step in the migration. The upload endpoint changes from http://wow.metoffice.gov.uk/automaticreading? to http://wow.meteo.be/api/v2/send?
If you are technically inclined, you can figure out yourself where this needs to be done in the software you are using. The table below shows how to implement this in different software packages. We will try to update it as more packages support WOW-BE reboot.
| Software used | Endpoint adjustment |
|---|---|
| Meteobridge | WOW-BE has been added as a possible weather network in the firmware update of September 23, 2025. Upgrade your firmware if needed. |
| CumulusMX | WOW-BE has been added as a possible weather network in Version 4.6.3 (build 4127). Upgrade your CumulusMX software if needed. |
| WeeWX | Instructions for adjusting the “endpoint” can be found on Github. WOW-BE has also been added to the list of weather networks in the development version of WeeWX. |
| WS View / WS View Plus / Ecowitt app | See instructions for a “WOW-BE ready” station. |
| Weatherlink | Adjusting the endpoint is not (yet) possible. |
Step 3: Update your station data
When you re-registered your station (Step 1), you received a station ID (short and long version) and a self-chosen authentication key. These are now your new credentials for identifying your station on the WOW platform. For the ID, you can choose either the long or the convenient short version.
Step 4: Check the connection
You can immediately verify in your personal dashboard whether data is being transmitted. Your station should appear on the new map a few minutes later.
